Professional tree surgeons with deep roots in arboriculture
Roots and Shoots is a professional tree surgery business built on decades of hands-on experience, formal training and a genuine understanding of trees. From careful pruning and complex removals to professional inspections and long-term tree management, our work is guided by knowledge, planning and respect for the environments we work in.
We work with both domestic and commercial clients, delivering tree surgery services that balance safety, tree health and practical outcomes.

A background rooted in horticulture
My name is Jason Isherwood, and my work with trees began at a young age on my family’s specialist conifer nursery. Growing up, we planted, nurtured and sold over one million trees, providing an early foundation in horticulture and an understanding of how trees establish, grow and respond to management over time.
That experience shaped a long-term commitment to working with trees properly — not simply cutting them, but understanding their structure, health and long-term needs.
"Jason and his team offered a great service. They were timely, efficient and very friendly. Valuable advice offered on consultation. Would highly recommend."
Built on real-world tree surgery experience
Roots and Shoots was built on practical, hands-on tree surgery long before inspections and surveying became part of the service. After completing a Higher National Diploma in Horticulture at Myerscough College, I spent years carrying out tree work across a wide range of sites, from routine pruning and tree felling to complex removals, building the experience that still informs how we work today.
As the business developed, further training in arboriculture, tree inspection and risk assessment allowed us to offer not just physical tree work, but informed advice and long-term planning — strengthening the quality of our tree surgery rather than replacing it.

Recognised standards backed by real industry expertise
Roots and Shoots operates to high professional standards, supported by recognised training and industry accreditation. This includes formal qualifications in horticulture, arboriculture, tree inspection and risk assessment. We ensure all work is carried out safely, correctly and with a clear understanding of long-term tree management.
"Service provided was to thin out and reduce a large 100ft beech tree in my garden close to my house with ornaments and lights very close. Work was undertaken with care and courtesy. Results were pleasing and tree is still aesthetically in proportion. Area was fully tidied on completion. Overall I am very satisfied with the work and would highly recommend Roots and Shoots."
How we approach tree surgery
Good tree surgery is about clear thinking, proportionate decisions and doing the right work for the tree and its surroundings. Our approach is consistent across every job, whether it’s routine maintenance or complex specialist work.
Clear, honest advice
We explain what work is recommended, why it’s needed and what outcome it will achieve in plain English — no unnecessary jargon.
Proportionate solutions
Not every tree needs heavy intervention. We recommend appropriate solutions factoring in the tree condition, site and situation.
Safety-led planning
Every job is planned with safety at the forefront, considering access, risk, surrounding structures and people before work begins.
High standards, tidy sites
Work is carried out to a high professional standard. Our team always leave the site clean, tidy and safe once the job is completed.
